Only accredited consultants to prepare EIA reports

The central government has notified that only accredited consultants will now be allowed to prepare environment impact assessment (EIA) reports and environment management plans (EMPs) for projects seeking green clearances. This directive has come after the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) barred Mantec Consultants for one year for preparing EIA reports and EMPs for 10 projects of the Kandla Port Trust (KPT) without any permission. Only those environmental consulting organisations that are accredited for a particular sector and specific category of project within that sector with the Quality Council of India, National Accreditation Board for Education and Training or any other agency as notified by the MoEFCC from time to time will be allowed to prepare the EIA report and EMP of a project in that sector and category.
