The Appellate Tribunal for Electricity (APTEL) has disallowed compensatory tariff for Adani Power Limited’s (APL) 3,300 MW Tiroda coal-based plant in Maharashtra and 1,320 MW Kawai coal-based plant in Rajasthan. Compensatory tariff is a tool which is used to provide relief to power generators to pass through the cost escalation due to change in law, force majeure or rise in input (fuel) cost. The Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission and Rajasthan Electricity Regulatory Commission had made separate appeals stating that cases of force majeure or change in law could not be identified for these thermal power plants (TPPs).
