Centre approves Delhi airport expansion plan

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has approved the draft plan for the phased expansion of the Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi. Phase I involves the expansion of Terminal 1 (T1) and the construction of a fourth runway of length 4,430 metres, parallel to the existing Runway 29. Under Phase II, a new terminal (T4) will be constructed in place of the old terminal (T2). It will also include an integrated approach road to T3 and T4. An additional 120,000 square metres of land will be acquired for the expansion. Phase I of the project is likely to be completed by end-2020.
