Centre approves Rs 55.3 billion investment in basic infrastructure under AMRUT

The central government has approved an investment of over Rs 55.3 billion for providing basic infrastructure in 111 cities across six states under the AMRUT scheme for the current fiscal year (2016-17). The central assistance to states such as – Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Odisha, Jharkhand and Meghalaya – will be to the tune of Rs 24.53 billion. The funds will be utilised for providing household water taps, improving water supply, sewerage network/septage management, and stormwater drainage, among others. These states have proposed a total investment of Rs 435.69 billion by 2019-20 under the scheme.
