Supreme Court strikes down TRAI’s directive for call drops

The Supreme Court has struck down the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (TRAI) directive imposing a penalty on operators for call drops on the grounds that it was arbitrary and unconstitutional. The apex court, while maintaining the authority of TRAI, questioned the process of arriving at the call drop decision. However, it ruled that a call drop compensation rule can be made and enacted by Parliament.
