The MoEFCC has granted environmental clearance to the Krishna Godavari LNG Import Floating Terminal Project. The clearance is subject to certain conditions, including obtaining prior permission from the standing committee of the National Board for Wildlife. The project involves the development of an offshore LNG floating storage and regasification unit at the Kakinada deepwater port in Andhra Pradesh on a build-own-operate basis. The project will be developed in two phases with a handling capacity of 3.6 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) in Phase I and 7.2 mtpa in Phase II. Krishna Godavari LNG Terminal Private Limited, a special purpose vehicle (SPV) of the VGS Group and Belgium’s Exmar, is setting up the terminal.
