The MoRTH has proposed the development of seven stretches on the Char Dham Yatra route. The proposed stretches, spanning a length of 889 km, are currently at the detailed project report (DPR) preparation stage. The scope of work on these stretches will include road widening, protection of landslide hazard zones, and construction of bypasses, long bridges, tunnels and elevated corridors. Preliminary estimates indicate a cost of Rs 117 billion for these projects, which includes the cost of civil construction, land acquisition, forest clearance and utility shifting. Currently, tenders are being invited for stretches that are largely free from encumbrances. For the remaining stretches, project sanctioning is linked to progress on land acquisition and obtaining forest clearances. The timeline for the completion of land acquisition, forest clearances, shifting of utilities, and award and completion of these projects is 2016-20.
