Government imposes penalty of Rs 23.13 billion on operators for violating subscriber verification norms

The government has imposed a penalty of Rs 23.13 billion on telecom operators for violating subscriber verification norms till May 31, 2016. The penalty has been imposed by the Telecom Enforcement, Resource and Monitoring Cells for non-compliant customer application forms and filing of complaints against apparently forged cases, as per guidelines issued from time to time. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, RCOM, TTSL, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone, Idea Cellular, Aircel and MTS are some of the operators that have been penalised.
