The MoR has launched the final location survey (FLS) for the single broad-gauge line rail connectivity project to Char Dham in Uttarakhand. Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) will undertake the FLS, which was sanctioned Rs 1.2 billion in the 2017-18 budget. RVNL had earlier undertaken a reconnaissance engineering survey of the rail connectivity project and had recommended two take-off points – one from the existing Doiwala station and the other from the Karanprayag station. For the Gangotri alignment, the proposed rail link originates from the Doiwala station to connect up to Manneri, marking a route of 131 km via Uttarkashi. For Yamunotri, the 22 km alignment is proposed to originate midway from the Gangotri link at Uttarkashi, making a “Y” connection and terminating at Palar. For the Kedarnath alignment, the 99 km proposed line will originate from the proposed Karanprayag station and terminate at Sonprayag via Saikot. The 75 km Badrinath alignment will originate midway from the Kedarnath link at Saikot making a “Y” connection and terminate at Joshimath. As per the reconnaissance survey, the total route length is 327 km and is estimated to cost Rs 432.92 billion.
