NITI Aayog has approved three railway projects in Tamil Nadu and Kerala at an estimated cost of about Rs 36 billion. These are the Thiruvananthapurm-Kanniyakumari line-doubling project in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, and the Madurai-Vanchi Maniyachchi-Tuticorin line-doubling project and the Vanchi Maniyachchi-Tirunelveli-Nagarcoil line-doubling project in Tamil Nadu, that involve the doubling and electrification of 86.56 km, 160 km and 102 km, at an estimated cost of Rs 14.31 billion, Rs 11.82 billion and Rs 10.03 billion respectively.
