The Uttar Pradesh government has cancelled PPAs for seven coal-based power plants aggregating 7,040 MW of capacity. These projects awarded to Lanco, Bajaj Energy, Welspun Energy and Unitech Machines, among others, in 2011, have failed to meet their commissioning targets. The developers failed to duly perform and obtain long-term coal linkages from the standing linkage committee, despite three extensions from the state government, the last one of which expired on March 31, 2017.
