Kolkata airport’s expansion master plan receives MoCA consent

The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has approved the master plan for the Kolkata airport expansion project. The expansion plan is proposed to be undertaken in phases. Under Phase I, a third terminal will be developed north of the current integrated terminal that will be connected to the corridors of the old domestic terminal via three aerobridges and walkalators. Further, for constructing the new terminal, the air traffic navigation building and the old international terminal will be demolished. The new building will be used for boarding and deboarding of passengers. The new terminal is expected to cater to only domestic flights while a larger portion of the existing integrated terminal will be allotted to international flights. The entire approval process is expected to be completed by end-March 2018.
