The central government has signed a credit facility agreement with France’s development financial institution Agence Française de Développement for financing a water supply project in Puducherry. The Rs 4.8 billion (Euro 65 million) agreement, focuses on increasing the drinking water supply to the city. The scope of works under the project will include drilling of 84 borewells; the construction of pumping stations, reservoirs and intermediate storage wells; laying of a distribution pipeline network; and providing household connections. In addition, the number of water tankers supplying water to the city will also be increased. The project will be implemented by Puducherry’s Public Works Department and the Puducherry Pollution Control Committee.
