The CCEA has approved the doubling of lines with electrification on the 102 km Vanchi-Maniyachchi-Nagercoil via Tirunelveli line, the 160 km Madurai-Vanchi and Maniyachchi-Tuticorin lines, and the 86.56 km Thiruvananthapuram-Kanniyakumari line, at an estimated cost of Rs 10.03 billion, Rs 11.82 billion and Rs 14.31 billion respectively. These projects have been scheduled for completion by 2020-21.
