GAIL (India) Limited has completed land acquisition for its Kochi-Kanjirakode-Bangalore/Mangalore gas pipeline project. The project involves the construction of a 1,156 km long pipeline with a 16 mmscmd capacity (including 4 mmscmd as common carrier) and a pipeline design pressure of 92 kg per square cm, passing through Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board approved the revision of the completion schedule of the project from June 2015 to February 2019, considering the recommendation of the MoPNG and the unprecedented socio-political hindrance in project execution. However, the project is now expected to be completed by December 2018, ahead of the scheduled commissioning date.
