The Punjab government has inaugurated a 95 million litre per day (mld) sewage treatment plant (STP) at Khaparkheri in Amritsar. Treated sewage from the plant will be released to farmers for irrigation purposes. The plant will also produce treated sludge as a by-product of the sewage treatment process. This will be provided to farmers for use as fertiliser. Both the treated sewage and sludge will be provided free of cost.
