Six STP projects approved by the National Mission for Clean Ganga

The Executive Committee of the National Mission for Clean Ganga has approved six sewage treatment projects for implementation in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Three of these projects will be implemented in Uttar Pradesh. They will involve the construction of STPs with a combined capacity of 29 mld at Unnao (13 mld), Shuklaganj (6 mld) and Ram Nagar (10 mld), and will entail a total investment of Rs 2,386.4 million. Meanwhile, in Bihar, three STPs with a total sewage treatment capacity of 27 mld will be set up at Sultanganj (10 mld), Naugachia (8 mld) and Mokama (8 mld) at a total estimated cost of Rs 1,750 million. The Unnao and Sultanganj projects will be executed on a hybrid annuity-based public-private partnership model.

The Tamil Nadu government has proposed the development of a 100 mld desalination plant at Villupuram. The plant is expected to cost Rs 10 billion and will meet the drinking water requirements of the Villupuram and Cuddalore districts. Meanwhile, the government has also proposed the launch of an underground drainage scheme worth Rs 1.98 billion in Villupuram and construction of check dams for all rivers in the state at a cost of Rs 10 billion.
