During the first five months (April-August) of the current fiscal year 2017-18, Indian major ports handled 273.96 mt of traffic, compared to 265.31 mt in the corresponding period of 2016-17, registering an increase of 3.26 per cent. Kandla port handled the maximum traffic at 43.99 mt, followed by Paradip port (40.37 mt) and the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) (27.54 mt). In terms of growth, Cochin port reported the maximum increase (19.99 per cent), followed by New Mangalore (13.26 per cent) and Paradip (12.57 per cent).
