The telecom ministry has issued the Temporary Suspension of Telecom Services (Public Emergency or Public Safety) Rules, 2017. As per the rules, in case the central government orders a suspension of telecom services, the directions to suspend services should be issued by the secretary of the home ministry. In addition, the rules mandate the telegraph authority and service providers to designate nodal officers in every licensed service area/state/union territory.
