Chief Executive Officer, High Speed Rail Corporation Limited

A veteran in the railway sector, Mritunjay Pratap Singh, chief executive officer (CEO), High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (HSRC), is an Indian Railway Services of Engineers officer of the 1991 batch. He comes with over 25 years of experience in railway operations, maintenance and infrastructure creation. His forte lies in large-value construction and consultancy contract management, land acquisition, project structuring and budgeting, and modern project management practices.

At the start of his career, Singh was responsible for maintaining tracks and other establishments in Bundelkhand, while carrying out major development works at the Chitrakoot, Banda and Mahoba railway stations. As divisional engineer at Jhansi, he spearheaded the development of Gwalior railway station and played a key role in developing the alignment of a new railway line for the Lalitpur-Khajuraho and Mahoba-Khajuraho routes in Bundelkhand.

Singh’s accomplishments as deputy chief engineer at Agra include the timely completion of the Idgah-Agra Fort gauge conversion project, for which he received an award from the Ministry of Railways. Further, during his stint at Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), he successfully conceptualised and commissioned the third railway track on the Aligarh-Ghaziabad route, and was involved in several important projects.

Currently, as CEO, HSRCL, Singh is involved in carrying out feasibility studies of high speed corridors as a part of establishing the Diamond Quadrilateral of High Speed in India, in consultation with renowned global companies from France, Spain and China. He has gained expertise in the areas of high speed rail network planning, financing, marketing, fare structures, technology project appraisal and operations. He has also been the man behind some of the major corporate social responsibility initiatives undertaken by RVNL, HSRCL’s parent company, and promotes a collaborative management culture within the organisation.

He has a civil engineering degree from MNIT, Jaipur, and a master’s with a specialisation in transportation engineering from IIT Roorkee. He also holds an MBA from the Department of Management Studies, IIT Delhi, with a specialisation in strategic management and finance.

An avid reader, Singh enjoys reading about success stories of major infrastructure development projects around the world. He is also fond of experimenting with local cuisines and learning about cultures of the new places he travels to.
