Indian shipping industry had fleet of 1,345 vessels as of August 31, 2017

As of August 31, 2017, the Indian shipping industry had a fleet of 1,345 vessels of 12.19 million gross tonnage (GT) and 18.53 million deadweight tonnage (DWT). Of the total vessels, 919 were coastal vessels with a tonnage of 1.5 million GT (1.65 million DWT) and 426 overseas vessels of 10.69 million GT (16.88 million DWT). During August 2017, one coastal vessel (107 GT) was added and another coastal vessel (397 GT) was sold from the fleet. During the same month, one overseas vessel of 9,640 GT was added and one overseas vessel of 77,182 GT was sold from the overall fleet.
