Spot market power prices peaked at Rs 9.91 per unit on September 12, 2017, a three-year high in the sector. The average price on the IEX peaked at Rs 5 per unit. The sudden surge was attributed to the relatively low power supply on account of lower generation by the coal, hydro, wind and nuclear power plants in the country.
