The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has issued notices to Bharti Airtel and Airtel Payments Bank as their retailers are allegedly opening payments bank accounts without taking the informed consent of customers who opt for Aadhaar-based mobile SIM verification. The UIDAI has stated that the act of not taking consent and informing the purpose of authentication is a violation of rules and punishable with financial penalties.
