As of October 31, 2017, the Indian shipping industry has a fleet of 1,359 vessels of 12.23 million gross tonnage (GT) and 18.59 million deadweight tonnage (DWT). Of the total vessels, 922 are coastal vessels with a tonnage of 1.47 million GT (1.6 million DWT) and 437 are overseas vessels of 10.77 million GT (16.98 million DWT).
