Brookfield calls off RCOM tower deal after merger with Aircel falls through

Brookfield Infrastructure has called off its deal worth $200 million with RCOM since the deal was dependent on RCOM’s merger with Aircel, which was called off in October . According to Brookfield, the merger will not proceed and therefore the transaction as previously announced does not stand. RCOM, which is undergoing debt restructuring, had expected its debt of Rs 450 billion to get slashed by 60 per cent after its merger with Aircel and the Brookfield deal. But with the Aircel deal falling through, RCOM now plans to function as a mobile virtual network operator that will offer 4G services once it sheds its 2G and 3G voice business.
