The centre has approved Rs 14 billion for eight cities in the Northeast under the Smart Cities Mission, covering 464 projects including water and sewerage projects. Of these, 24 projects costing Rs 3 billion, identified as high-impact projects, are to be implemented expeditiously. In addition, 12 towns in the region have been included in the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation with the aim of providing water taps to all households besides increasing water supply to 135 litres per capita per day.
