The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has set a target of awarding works for 20,000 km of national highways in 2018-19. This is about 25 per cent more than the 17,055 km awarded during 2017-18, of which 8,652 km was awarded by the MoRTH, 7,397 km by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and 1,006 km by National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL). Further, the construction targets for 2018-19 have been set at 16,420 km, of which 9,700 km will be constructed by the MoRTH, 6,000 km by NHAI and 720 km by NHIDCL. In comparison, 9,829 km of national highways were constructed during 2017-18. Also, the per day construction target has been set at 45 km for 2018-19, against last year’s target of about 27 km per day. The MoRTH also plans to focus on the completion of DPRs of all highways that have been declared national highways in principle.
