GMR Infrastructure Limited (GIL) has been chosen as the successful bidder through the Swiss Challenge method for the development of a greenfield commercial port in Andhra Pradesh. GIL has offered a revenue share of 2.7 per cent of the gross revenue payable to the Andhra Pradesh government for a period of 30 years. The state governmentIt has proposed to provide infrastructure support to the tune of Rs 2 billion. The proposed port will be developed as an all-weather, deep draught, multi-cargo port and will be spread over about 1,950 acres of land. It would be located about 30 km north of Kakinada, at one of the strategic nodes of the Visakhapatnam-Chennai industrial corridor and is expected to benefit from the associated corridor developments.
