Coal India Limited’s (CIL) 1 billion tonne (bt) production target is likely to be pushed out to 2025 from the earlier deadline of 2020. Key issues for CIL in meeting the original target are logistical bottlenecks at remote mines and the lack of availability of railway rakes. In a separate development, CIL plans to strictly implement its credit policy and levy penal interest on payments delayed beyond 15 days as well as stop coal supply to generators if payments are not made.
