NTPC Limited has issued a tender for the import of 2.5 million tonnes of coal, to be utilised at the company’s coastal power projects in Simhadri, Kudgi and Farakka. The imports are estimated to cost around Rs 13.72 billion (at $80 per tonne of coal). NTPC had last imported coal three years ago. In a separate development, it has obtained approval from NITI Aayog for setting up a coal mining subsidiary to handle its coal mining operations. NTPC has also started the transportation of 1,233 tonnes of fly ash through inland waterways in association with IWAI from its 2,340 MW Kahalgaon thermal power plant (TPP) in Bihar.
