ABB secures its largest traction equipment order in India

ABB has secured its largest traction equipment order in the country. It will supply Rs 2.7 billion worth of state-of-the-art converters for electric locomotives from the Diesel Locomotive Works, Varanasi. The converters have been custom designed for Indian Railways and will be manufactured at ABB’s Nelamangala factory near Bengaluru.

ABB’s traction solution is based on the latest technology to enhance the reliability of trains and increase the use of sustainable transport by moving from diesel- to electric-powered trains. This will enable rail operators to achieve significant improvements in operational efficiency. Currently, more than 20 per cent of the three-phase electric locomotives in India are equipped with traction converters from ABB.
