Indore Municipal Corporation rolls out initiative to collect and segregate plastic waste from households

The Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has introduced a new initiative to collect and segregate plastic waste directly from households. A private agency will be deployed to collect the waste from the residents and an arrangement to pay the residents for the waste collected will also be developed. The system will be introduced in 30 localities of the city as a pilot project which will later be extended to the entire city. The step will save IMC Rs 10 million every month and make Indore the first city in the country to segregate plastic waste at source. With the help of private agencies, IMC will convert the collected waste into reusable raw materials for making home composting units, water pipelines, dustbins, etc.
